When Clara was born, we knew we wanted her to grow up speaking both Portuguese and English. It was so important to us that she would have our culture, speak the language, and always be able to communicate with her family. But finding Portuguese children’s books in the UK was far harder than I ever expected. Every time we went to Portugal, we would make trips back and forth just so we could practice reading and storytelling in Portuguese, and not only in English like at nursery and with the books you can find everywhere here.

That is when Clara’s Little Library came to life. I knew I couldn’t be the only parent who felt this way. I knew so many parents were turning to TV or screen time simply because they didn’t have access to books or toys in the languages their children needed in the UK.

So I created this as a heartfelt answer to a problem so many bilingual families across the UK have been quietly facing. We are a small business, and we hope to bring joy, connection, and the right stories to families like ours.
